A 90-day pilot program started on 24 January 2012, which allows adult US citizens living in the United States and Canada to apply for a passport card online.  Applying online avoids the need to mail in the applicant’s current passport and the require forms.  To participate in the program, applicants must currently possess a valid 10-year passport book.  Applicants will also need to provide an acceptable digital photograph and make online payment in US dollars.
