In a 51–50 vote late Monday night, the U.S. Senate passed the One Big Beautiful Bill, a comprehensive 1,000-page legislative package that includes the most extensive expansion of immigration enforcement measures in decades. The bill passed along party lines, with Vice President J.D. Vance casting the tie-breaking vote.

The legislation allocates approximately $150 billion toward immigration enforcement and adjudication infrastructure, significantly increasing resources for federal agencies responsible for border security and deportation.

Key immigration-related provisions include:

  • $47 billion for expanded U.S.–Mexico border wall construction;
  • $7 billion for additional Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents and vehicle fleets;
  • $5 billion for CBP facility expansion and new interior checkpoints;
  • $45 billion for the expansion of adult and family detention centers;
  • $3.3 billion to increase the number of immigration judges and support staff;
  • Substantial new filing fees, including:
    • $1,500 for adjustment of status (green card) applications,
    • $1,000 for asylum applications,
    • $500 for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) applications,
    • $900 for motions to reopen or reconsider,
    • $1,050 for inadmissibility waivers,
    • and a new $30 fee for Form I‑94 issuance.

The bill also funds 10,000 new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and allocates resources for the expansion of detention capacity nationwide. It authorizes the Department of Homeland Security to accelerate removals and streamline case processing within the existing statutory framework.

The legislation now returns to the House of Representatives for final reconciliation before being sent to the White House for signature. If enacted in its current form, it would represent one of the most consequential changes to the U.S. immigration system in recent history.
